The Dreaming - Rebecca Partridge

I have chosen this picture by Rebecca Partridge called "The Dreaming". I think that Rebecca's pictures are aesthetically pleasing from her use of colour. I particularly like this one out of all her paintings because she has used the dark colours in the background to bring out all the reds, yellows and greens in the centre if the piece. Rebecca uses many different shades of colours to make the picture almost look 3D and has painted the circles to be getting smaller as they move into the centre of the painting, which suggests that she wants you to think that the circles are moving round. 

On the edge of the picture Rebecca has used very little colour for the spots and a strong, dark background that makes them look almost translucent. In contrast to the outer spots, the ones in the middle of the painting are closer to being opaque. 

I think that by looking at this painting you can almost see the spots going round in circles and to me, that is why i think that Rebecca has called this painting "the dreaming". You could almost get lost staring into the painting. 

More progress...

These images were taken on the day of shooting our one shot short film. We all went to the alley together and ran through the scene a few times without filming it. We decided that the film would work better if we recorded it in "night mode" it made it clearer to make out what was going on in certain areas of the alley. 

When filming we had to take people passing through the alley into consideration. Incase they were to stand right in front of the camera for too long. In the end it only took us 3 shots till we were happy with the film. 

Group Progress on One Shot Film

We met in our group to decide the full story for our short film. Once we had agreed on everything we visited the location which was a dark back alley in the centre on Nottingham. The alley had a fair bit of lighting which would set the mood well for filming when it was dark. 

Story: A guy goes in a dark alley to buy drugs from a dealer - the guy turns out the be an undercover police man. The dealer nearly gets away but another guy steps in and he is caught.

The rule of thirds is when an image can be divided into nine equal parts. The four points formed by the intersections of these lines can be used to align features in the photograph. Applying the rule of thirds to photographs can make them more aesthetically pleasing and professional-looking. To take a photograph using the rule of thirds you need to line up subjects with the guiding lines, placing the horizon on the top or bottom line instead of the centre. it is often common, when photographing a person to line the body up with a vertical line and having the persons eyes in like with a horizontal one.

Why do we want our belongings to do more than just function well?

We want our belongings to do more than just function well because this way we feel we are getting more value for money. For example, with an ipod, you get more than just an MP3 player – you also have the opportunity to play movies, store pictures, play games and play songs. In a small compact ipod that can fit in your pocket, you get about four individual gadgets all in one.

As soon as we can afford it, we are willing to pay extra for things with appealing forms because money is not as much of an issue. If you pay more, the object will do more for us and be better quality. For example, you could pay about £40 for a mobile phone that simply makes and receives calls but on the other hand you could pay around £300 for a mobile phone that makes and receives calls, takes pictures, plays games, is an MP3 player, has access to the internet, and much more.
