Alterations to final design

This is the outcome of my index page. Alterations that i want to make are:

  • Footer needs to tie in more with the design

  • Text needs to be consistant throughout the page (navigation and footer is a different font to the main text)

  • Navigation - possibly change the colour of text or background colour. Change white to a cream - look at colour wheel

  • The eat, drink, relax, enjoy title needs to be smaller as it is fighting with the title for the first thing you see. Could move it to underneath the title in a smaller size or leave it where it is but just decrease the size.

On the menu, eveing info and contact info thet footer does not tie in atall and i think it could do with some more images or less text as its too overwhelming.

Evenings and Contact Info..

I have used the same background for the menu, contact info and evening information. The index is slightly different as its the main page but still in purple.
I think the evening page is boring there needs to be some more images or paterns on it. I struggled to include this as there was so much information to fit on the page.

Index Page

This is the design i have decided on for the index page.. The image does not include the navigation, header and footer as i have put this together in photoshop and it is to the correct dimentions. I have taken photographs of cakes made in homemade and altered them to fit the bottom of the index page. I decided against having a gallery page for this website as there is not enough things to take pictures of to fill a gallery. Instead i am just going to include images from the cafe on different pages.

Menu

I have chosen my font to use throughout the website which is Bradley Hand ITC, It was the closest text that i could get to handwriting. I have done two options for the menu. One with black writing and one with purple. I have decided that i am going to go with the black written design as it will go better with the rest of the website. Too many colours will make the website too busy.

I have not included the whole menu on the website as there was just too much to write and it would be too overwhelming for the user.

Headers...

These are a few of the ideas i have come up with for the header of my website. I have tried out the design with black and white writing. I think the black writing looks better - I think its too much white on my page to have the header and navigation all in white as its abit overwhelming. The stars that i have done on one of the ideas is used in all the menus and alot of the promotional leaflets that are available to take from the cafe.

Wireframes

The bottom wireframe is the design that i plan to build on. For my design i intend to keep the theme of handwritten text and purple/white colours.

Retail Esablishment Website

For our two week project we have been told to research then design and build a xtml/css website. I have chosen to design a website for a small cafe in Nottingham called 'Homemade'. It does not have a current website operating, so i thought it would be a good oportunity to try a website completly from scratch without any previous designs.

Homemade is serves a ... open for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. Open late on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evening. You can also hire out homemade for party bookings.

Software Development Models: Waterfall & Whirlpool

The waterfall model is a sequence development process in which the process is flowing steadily downward through five stages. The next phase cannot be started until the previous one has been completed. By doing this it makes each stage a lot more manageable and helps to keep a high standard of work. The waterfall process cannot be fixed once it has started.
The five phases of the model are:

The Whirlpool model only has four phases, it is different to the waterfall model as it allows the designer to deal with more than one phase at once. The whirlpool model works more to identify problems early on and dealt with before they become too expensive.

In Web Design the whirlpool software development is a better model to use as it is easier to go back and forth when designing. With the waterfall process the designer is very limited as once a decision is made it would be very difficult to change your mind on anything. In Web design as things are changing at such a rapid speed it would be foolish for a designer to commit to designing in one particular method (waterfall) as when new codes etc are developed they are limited to the basic things they originally set up using.
