Artefact 4

As in artefact 3 I have discovered that the user is quite willing to design the dresses and play around but when it comes to buying, all the girls I interviewed said that they would be quite edgy if they hadn't heard of the company giving their bank details over the internet.

For my next artefact I have decided to design a banner than shows 3 different things for the user to buy.

1.) A range of magnets, keyrings, etc for the user to design and create from scratch

2.) the dresses that i put together in artefact 3

3.) Features for cars. (interior and exterior)

My aim from this artefact is to see how open the user is to buying these things online after they have experienced the situation online. In artefact 1 I asked the users if they would buy most of these things online but i want to see if that is true when it is put into practise.
It will be pointed out to my focus group in this study that all three will be well known companies so that the internet safety does not alter the respondents answers.

Focus Group for Artefact 3

I asked 6 girls what they thought of the interactive experience that i put together for artefact 3. All the girls were between the age 20-22 and keen shoppers.

I told the girls that the banner would be located at the top of a clothes website such as ASOS.

  • All the girls said that they would be very keen to play around experimenting with different colours, patterns, lengths and styles of the dress
  • The girls would know the dress would suit them
  • The girls were keen as they knew the dress would fit their body shape.
  • Noone else would have the same one so they wouldn't have to worry about other people showing up in the same outfit as them
  • All of them however mentioned that they would definatly not buy the dress is they had not heard of the brand.
  • One of the girls had previously purchased trainers from the NIKEiD website and said that there was TOO MUCH choice when designing her shoes, so that would have to be taken into consideration.
  • ONE girl said she would not be bothered about designing her own dress as she didn't feel she was artistic enough and would rather just see a dress in front of her.

Artefact 3

For my third artefact i have designed an interactive experience. I decided to allow users to design their own dress completely to their own style. The user can choose from colour, thread, text, patterns, length and style.

When the user rolls over the banner with their mouse the extended window will scroll down. The user can then begin to play around with different designs to suit them.

Now that i have completed the game i intend to do a focus group interview to ask people what the think of the online experience and whether they would be inclined to purchase the product once they have designed the dress.

V & A Tile Designer

The V&A Tile Designer application is the sort of game that i am planning on creating for my third prp artefact. I will use different choices, but i like the idea of the user having a blank canvas and being able to completely choose their own design. (Similarly to the NIKEID website). This is what I have discussed in my research document how, given the opportunity, would the user be more likely to buy something if they had the chance to bring their identity into the design of a product.

The user can pick and choose different colours shapes and sizes.

Once i have created the game i plan on doing a focus group so that i can ask users what their thoughts and opinions are on the idea.

PRP Artefact 3

My question for my PRP is
How do Interactive Online Experiences allow users to negotiate their identity in order to increase the likelihood of a sale?
So far I have conducted two questionnaires one on online advertising and the second asking users to compare website banners. Now that I have covered how to get the user to the website, I want to look at what convinces the user to purchase once they are there. On my third artefact i would also like the bring identity into the experiment.

For my third artefact I have began looking at the Cafe Press website. Here users can upload their own graphics, logos or text and add them to the product. Cafe Press offers the user the opportunity to order their own products online. The user also has the chance to make a virtual "shop"

From looking at the website I have decided to attempt to make a game on flash for the user to incorporate their identity into their own design. Here i want to see whether the user is more likely to buy something if it is made for them individually (one of a kind) with their own stamp on it.

Meeting with my client

After having a long meeting with my client about the GS2 website. we have gone through all the designs again for the portfolio pages and decided to make them much more simple. We were mainly talking about the portfolio page as it is the most important part of the site for potential customers to visit.

The portfolio can be accessed through clicking on one of the three boxes which feature on every page: Web design, Logo Design and Printed literature, it an also be accessed through the top navigation bar on the portfolio tab. If it is clicked on through the top navigation bar the user will be taken directly to the first portfolio page where they pick between the three topics of design.

This is the first portfolio page:

Once the user has chosen the area of design that they would like to look at they will be taken to a second portfolio page which will feature all the work and a selection of thumbnails that may entice the user to view other areas of design. The second portfolio page will consist mainly of imagery but my client wants to be able to write a small amount of text about the project next to the images.

The text that has been used in all the designs is not going to be used in the final design.

The thumbnails that have been introduced on both portfolio pages my client wants them to either be changing or to be slowly moving/fading.

Other alterations
  • There needs to be a contact button on EVERY page along with the contact tab on the navigation.
  • There will be a facebook link on the contact page
